Art Challenge Branding, Dedham Guild

With every new Art Challenge the Dedham Guild hosts at the Dedham Community Theatre I try to design new branding. It makes it a nice challenge and easily recognizable. For this I used the font "Reed of Love" for the Fun logotype and a typewriter font for the rest of the text. I choose my photo for the photo to use. I had some great choices but, this photo of the amusement ride was bright and eye catching.

With every challenge, I have to design a flyer for the show and a flyer for the opening, a sign for painting prices, a card with contact info, I also design a small poster for our Art Show board that sits upstairs from the show and advertises the "Fun" show in the theatre. It is quite a bit of work but a great challenge to come up with a brand new theme each time. Sometimes it takes me a few tries but ideas finally click.

It is fun to use these graphic to advertise the show on social media and Dedham Patch site. Our audience for these shows has been growing. We also have better lighting in the gallery area. It looks fantastic.

Dedham Open Studios Map

I have been designing and altering this map for about 5 years. It is an interesting challenge ever year to get the map correct and have the businesses in the right spots.

I feel that drawing the map in illustrator is the way to go and put the text on top of it in Indesign. In Indesign I can move the name of the streets and art spots much easier.

This year I have added a new location in East Dedham. Little inserts can be a great but also you have to make them clear. The first year I drove the map to make sure it was accurate. Maps online are not always easy and can be wrong. I found that out but before the map was printed the first year, phew.

Stay tuned for the finished map

New Flyers, Dedham Square Artist Guild

We have had a busy season at the Dedham Square Artist Guild. I have been busy designing flyers, ads, signs and more. These are some my latest flyer designs.

The very newest is the Hooray for Hollywood show that has it's opening this Thursday at the Dedham Community Theatre from 6-8pm.

I love that all these flyers can look different everyone is a new challenge. The only common piece is our logo and address.

Holland works on Paper, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Jan Toorop, Delft Salad Oil Poster lithograph, 1894.

This is by Carel Adolph Lion Cachet, Calendar, 1899

This is by Wynand Otto Jan Nieuwenkamp, "Our own hearth", 1896

This is By Antonius Johannes, "Elias van Bonnel", Bookbinder, 1897

From the MFA website: "In the era of Art Nouveau, from the 1890s through the turn of the century, there was a flourishing of new, imaginative art and craft throughout Europe. Holland also saw an explosion of inventive art and design in this period, including many expressive works on paper—posters, decorative calendars, illustrated books, as well as prints and drawings."

These works are incredible vivid and elaborate. They are a pleasure to behold.

Website revamping

I have finally revamped my website for my portfolio. I went with a simple layout on Weebly. Yeah! It feels good.

It has taken me quite some time to revamp the site. I think gathering all the art to upload take the most time. I always ask myself, what do I think people want to see and what is the most vibrant. This is a complete redo. I think I have enough on their to give people an idea on my designs. I also added more pages to add more work.
I will be adding more to the site, so stay tuned.
