Halloween is coming

I designed this for a costume swap sponsored by the Dedham Junior Woman's Club. I had fun choosing the fonts and drawing the spooky but cute bats, pumpkin and spider for this flyer. Very fun

Logo Design Submission

what this committee want to accomplish. I think designing a green logo can be tough. You don't want to copy a design that is already done or design something cliche. This was a challenge but, a fun one. It make me stretch my imagination and really think about a good green/eco image.

Dedham Natural Wonders Logo, Round 2

With this Dedham Natural Wonders logo I went in a totally different direction. I am using different wildlife such turtles, dragonflies, and frogs. The frogs are very fun to draw and kind of cute. We had the idea of having the Turtles on a log with the name of the organization in the logo. The monarch caterpillar was the most challenging. All those stripes and patches

Dedham Natural Wonders

I have embarked on designing a logo for the non-profit Dedham Natural Wonders. It is an organization with the mission to educate people on what nature we have right here in Dedham.

My initial idea was a monarch butterfly and spotted salamander. I drew then in Adobe illustrator and wanted to use each alone and with each other to form these logo ideas. Dedham Natural Wonders have decided to go in a different direction. We have discussed the use a native turtle or frog image for the logo. A new challenge for me but, I am up for it.

Boston Handmade T-shirt design

Boston Handmade is having a T-shirt contest among it members. We would like to sell them at Boston Handmade events and online. The designs will be used on women, men and kids t-shirts. We had to use the logo and we could use three colors but one is the T-shirt color of our choosing. We did have to use brown and blue of the logo. I can't wait to see the other entrees. These are mine

The Sensible Organizer Logo Final

This is the second round of the Sensible Organizer logo. It was mostly text and color changes. With all the social media I also had to design and modify the logo to fit within Facebook layout. It can be a challenge for logo designers.
This is the final logo in color and in black and white. When designing a logo you have to consider what it will look like in black and white. I think it works well here.
Below is the Facebook version of the logo. I think it will work well for The Sensible Organizer fanpage.

Organizing - Logo Challenge

My friend JoAnn and owner of The Sensible Organizer, asked me to design her logo for her. This is the first round. She told me the colors that she liked and she wanted a more type oriented logo. She organizes for both businesses and individual clients. We both decided that using a photo or a particular icon might paint her business in a corner. I am working on the second round.

Banner Big

It is kind of fun to see my work big and on a banner. This event is Saturday. I created the logo and modified it for different uses such as Twitter and Facebook. It should be a great line up of bands and artists.

Paris vs New York

I love these posters. I found them on society6 via design milk. They are very clever and the use of color and silhouettes is wonderful. I love the comparison between the two cities. Check out the site and explore, I think you will like it

Brochure Elegance

CDA realty called me to put together this brochure for a property they are selling in Boston. It reminded me of the my Boston Symphony days. I designed many elegant pieces for the Symphony Season.

My client showed me several real estate brochures. Showing me what he liked and did not like in these brochures. He knew he wanted a border and the photos placed in a elegant and meaningful way. I adjusted the photos slightly by adding a bit more contrast but, the photos overall were beautiful and sharp. That made it easy to become excited about designing this brochure. I think it is a great piece to show a prospective buyer

Marimekko, Super Big and Bright

(from the Marimekko Website)

I have fallen in love with all the colors and patterns that Marimenkko has in their collection. I used to think they only did housewares such as big flower pillows. It is so much more, totebags, clothing, towels, etc. I could go on! Marimekko uses color and big designs to make for bright and cheerful pieces. Check it for yourself.

I found this artist and poster through the excellent, and one of my favorite blogs, modish. I love the art on this sight and the art is inspirational to me. I used to draw and of course I design. It is fun to look color, illustrations, other people's point of view to refresh you mind.

The bio for Correll Gemma is very cute and worth reading

Dedham Goes Pink Logo - Final

This is the final logos. Both have versions with and without the date. We decided to go with one color and no screens to be able to save costs on t-shirts. Which, is very practical and makes it a really good challenge for me. The round logo will be used on the shirts and the long logo will be used if it is more appropriate for this format. This is a town event and hopefully tons of people will attend.

I am proud to be able to help out with this importantt cause

Dedham Goes Pink Logo

This is a fun logo challenge and for a good cause. My client wanted to use the pink theme for the logo and also add in words that have meaning to fighting breast cancer. I wanted to show the client a round and a geometric choices for the logo design. I am also experimenting with adding in the date to some of the logos, my client wanted to see how it all lays together. I think the date works better with the round logos. I will keep you posted on her choices.

Pikaland

I love this site, Pikaland. It has oddles of fun illustrations, artists and ideas. I just love gathering inspiration from many of the artists on featured on their site.

One of favorites featured recently were these sock designs by Ashi Dashi. They are so much fun! I think I will be ordering some kooky, fun socks in the future.

New Member Flyer

The Dedham Junior Woman's Club would love new members. I am a member of this charitable organization and I offered to design this flyer members will put around town. I got the chance to design the logo, many months ago. The club's look is going in a new direction. A more modern, cleaner look. I wanted to keep the flyer simple to be able to attract attention. I put the list of what the club does as a border around the flyer. Another club member suggested it. I think it works

Esty Treasury Talent

My fellow Boston Handmader and friend Danielle of the Merriweather Council puts together wonderful treasuries on Etsy. She has a wonderful sense of style and what is appealing. She did add my photo which is so sweet. Her own shop is lovely. I really enjoy her blog. Her take on having a small business and also her online shop favorites.

Flyer Fun, Dedham Open Studios

We are gearing up for the Dedham Open Studios. It is May 15, 2011. This is my first go on the flyer. My co-chair for this event picked the last design. I think it has a colorful appeal. I had to design this quickly and wanted to make a good impact and attract attention. The graphic and logo are by Derek Aylward.

Blog Banner Fun

One of the fun things about your own blog banner is you get to change it anytime you like. I plan to change my photography banner more often. Give my readers a nice surprise and mix it up a little. Change the font up and photo.

Top: old one Bottom: New One

What do you think about the new banner. I am kind of excited about it.

Map Challenge

I am designing a brochure/poster for the first annual Dedham Open Studios (story here). This will be a big undertaking. This is the style map I would like to use. I have been using Illustrator. I think that is the best program to use. More flexibility with sizing and colors. I am using online maps for a basis.

If you have lived in Massachusetts or visited you would realize how confusing our roads are. I feel bad for visitors. That is a whole other story about our road layouts.

I think the challenge will be fitting in text and graphics to point people in the right direction to see the art and studios. This is my first pass and I know there will be lots of revisions. It will be interesting to see the transformation of the map. Stay tuned.

Jewelry Business, Cristina Hurley Jewelry

Months ago, I revamped Cristina Hurley's logo. She has come back to me to design her business card. She had the idea to put some of her beautiful work on the back of her card. Cristina asked me to make a simple design with a font that complimented the logo. This work represents what she does, very well. She has an online shop and retail shop she opened about six months ago. I love her work. You can see it here. Her shop also carries some of my work. Nice
